The Akron Zoo has many things to offer to the people of northeast Ohio and it is one of my favorite places to visit. Of course they have great educational programs for children. Perhaps you have a child or grandchild who has participated in one the many opportunities for kids, but what I love is the Akron Zoo has many events for the adults, where everyone must be over 21, including the designated driver and children and infants are not allowed at all. This is about one of those.
This Saturday, the Akron Zoo presents Wild for Wine. Upon your arrival at the Zoo, grab your wine glass and prepare to enjoy a night full of fun. Tickets for Wild for Wine include your wine glass to use and take home, appetizers (while supplies last), 9 wine tastings and live music.
Wild for Wine will also feature animal art in action sessions. At designated times, a few of the Zoo's animal ambassadors will show off their Van Gogh skills. The Zoo will be selling and drawing raffle tickets for each time slot, so you can try your luck at winning the chance to choose the colors selected and take home that painting from one of the wonderful animals. If you don't win, don't worry, The Akron Zoo Education Team will have more animal art of different sizes and styles available for purchase. Just think I could decorate the "Cat Room" at my house with animal art.
This event is rain or shine. Reservations are required. This is a limited capacity event, so please purchase tickets in advance.

It's time to go Wild for Wine at the Akron Zoo this Saturday.....but if you are like me, you will have to bring your own paper bag and straw.
My wife Sue and I are moving. With 5 adult kids between us who have moved on into their own places, we simply don't need that much room anymore, to say nothing of the maintenance. We're downsizing to a condo but we're torn about our extensive album colllection, It's impressive, culled her and my many years in radio, as well as those of our late spouses - both of whom were also in radio. Vinyl is cool again. Back in vogue so to speak. Some believe it gives a richer, warmer sound to their favorite music. But the idea of moving all those albums and finding space for them all in a smaller home has us thinking, "Do They Stay or Do They GO? Compact is good. Less is more, right? These days with streaming services and Bluetooth technology we can call up our favorite songs with a simple vocal command. What would you do?
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair that took place August 15th through the 17th, 1969, in Bethel, New York. I would be lying to you if I said I was there. Acutally I was in my hometown of Mexico, MO awaiting my 14th birthday which would happen 9 days after Woodstock ended and getting ready to become a freshman in High School. Over the years I have probably see every videotaped performance though, but now you can join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland for a Woodstock 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, August 17th. On that day the Rock Hall welcomes 2019 inductees, The Zombies for a celebration of peace, love and music.
The Zombies will perform on the Rock Hall Live stage, Saturday, August 17th, at 3 p.m.. Making a special appearance during the show are original members and fellow Inductees Hugh Grundy and Chris White.
Fans can also enjoy great new exhibits all weekend long. Relive the iconic music festival on it's anniversary weekend with the Rock Hall's 50 exhibit, featuring rare prints, performance outfits, video footage, tickets and original signage. You can even see the snare drum used by Hugh Grundy for all the 1960's recordings, including the hits "She's Not There" and "Time of the Season" (my favorite Zombies song), among other items.
So, if you are like me and were too young to take in the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, live, in 1969, you can still relive this weekend where Rock and Roll Music History was made. Wishing you peace, love and rock and roll.

Have you ever heard of PorchRokr? Well, the ever-growing music & arts festival returns to the Highland Square area next weekend. And when I say Highland Square, I mean it's all over Highland Square! On the streets, around park areas and best of all, on a lot of front porches of houses where people live. Hence the name, (regardless of whether Rokr is spelled correctly or not)! It's so cool and it's free. This will mark the 8th year it's been put on last year alone, the event drew about 15K people. I recommend it.
