Splash pads are coming to Akron just in time for the kids who will be heading back to school soon. It seems oddly timed but better late than never. Mayor Dan Horrigan was on hand for the unveiling at Joy Park Community Center on what turned out to be a sunny, hot day. Made for a good photo op. The city says a recent survey made it very clear to construct these free, cooling areas in a local wards. Construction on the Joy Park splash pad began in June. Another one is set to open next spring in North Hill's Patterson Park. The ultimate plan is to put one in each of Akron's ten wards.
