"Don't worry," says Geppetto, "I'll give you a sheet of fine sandpaper. That should sort out the problem." A few weeks later, they meet again. "How are things with your girlfriend now?" asks Geppetto.

"Who needs a girlfriend?" Pinocchio replies!!.

WONE Joke of the Week 5/6/16

From Tom Bruce of Boston Heights, this week's winner for the Speedway gift card from Klaben Auto!

A tour bus driver is driving with a bus load of seniors down a highway when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady. She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up.

After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts.

She repeats this gesture about five more times; when she is about to hand him another batch again ....he asks the little old lady, 'Why don't you eat the peanuts yourself?

*'We can't chew them because we've got no teeth', she replied.*

The puzzled driver asks, 'Why do you buy them then?

The old lady replied, "we just love the chocolate around them.*

WONE JOKE OF THE WEEK 4/22/16

The JOKE OF THE WEEK scores a $50 Speedway card courtesy Klaben Auto...and it's Tom Bartholemy of Ravenna.

Three Steelers fans -- Steve, Bob and Jim -- are working on a septic sewer rebuild when suddenly Steve falls in and is killed instantly. After the ambulance leaves with Steve's body, Bob and Jim realize one of them will have to call Steve's wife.

"I'll do it," says Bob. "I'm good at this sensitive stuff."

Two hours later he returns with a six pack of beer. "Did you tell her," asks Steeler Jim?

"Yep," responds Steeler Bob. Jim replies "...so where did you get the six pack?" Bob responds Steeler Steve's widow gave it to him.

"What! Why would she do that," cries Jim.

"Well," Bob continues, "when she answered the door I asked her 'are you Steeler Steve's widow?"

"Widow? No, your mistaken," she answered. "I'm not a widow." So I said "I'll bet you a six pack you ARE!"

As the investigation into Prince's death continues, we have just learned that an intervention was planned on the morning he has found dead at Paisley Park. Prince's reps had reached out to Dr. Howard Cornfield in California to get Prince help with his painkiller addiction. When Dr. Kornfield couldn't immediately clear his schedule, he sent his son, Andrew Kornfield to evaluate Prince and devise a course of treatment. The younger Kornfield took a red-eye flight to Minneapolis to meet with Prince on the morning of April 21st to stage an intervention and try to convince Prince to get round-the-clock treatment at a facility in California. Unfortunately, Andrew Kornfeld was one of three people at Paisley Park that morning who discovered Prince’s body in the elevator, and it was he who called 911, because the staffers “were in too much shock.” Andrew informed the dispatcher “The people are just distraught. We’re in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are at the home of Prince.”  As the investigation heats up, the U.S. Attorney's office has joined the DEA in their search for answers.

Jeff noticed something was bothering Steeler Jim and asked what was wrong. "Well," replies the Steeler Jim, "when we finished making love on the first night, I made a mistake and put a $50 bill on the pillow."

Joke Of The Week 2/26

Tom Bartholemy of Ravenna scores The Works from Klaben Auto with WONE's Joke of the Week.

A young teenaged girl was a prostitute and, for obvious reasons, kept it a secret from her grandma. One day, the police raided a brothel and arrested a group of prostitutes, including the young girl. The prostitutes were instructed to line up in a straight line on the sidewalk. Well, who should be walking in the neighborhood, but little old Grandma. The young girl was frantic.

Sure enough, Grandma noticed her young granddaughter and asked curiously, "What are you lining up for, dear?" Not willing to let grandma in on her little secret, the young girl told her that some people were passing out free oranges and that she was lining up for some.

"Mmm, sounds lovely," said Grandma, "I think I'll have some myself" she continued as she made her way to the back of the line.

A police officer made his way down the line, questioning all of the prostitutes. When he got to Grandma, at the end of the line, he was bewildered. "But you're so old... how do you do it?"

Grandma replied, "Oh, it's quite easy, sonny... I just remove my dentures and suck 'em dry!"

Joke of the Week 2/19

The WONE Joke of the Week winner is Klayleene Mantz of Akron, who grabs The Works from Klaben Auto.

Once upon a time there lived a king. The king had a beautiful daughter, the Princess. But there was a problem. The princess was cursed. Anything she touched would melt. No matter what it was, metal, wood, stone, anything. Because of this, men were afraid of her. Nobody would dare marry her.

The king despaired. What could he do to help his daughter? He consulted his wizards and magicians. One wizard told the king, "If your daughter touches one thing that does not melt in her hands, she will be cured."

The king was overjoyed and came up with a plan. The next day, he held a competition. Any man that could bring his daughter an object that would not melt would marry her and inherit the king’s wealth. Three young princes took up a challenge.

The first brought a sword of the finest steel. But alas, when the princess touched it, it melted. The prince went away sadly.

The second prince brought diamonds. He thought diamonds are the hardest substance in the world and would not melt. But alas, once the princess touched them, they melted. He too was sent away disappointed.

The third prince approached. He told the princess "Put your hand in my pocket and feel what is in there." The princess did as she was told, though she turned a little red. She felt something hard. She held it in her hand. And it did not melt!! The king was overjoyed. Everybody in the kingdom was overjoyed. And the third prince married the princess and they both lived happily ever after.

What was in the prince’s pants? M&M’s of course. They melt in your mouth, not in your hand! What were you thinking???

A Look Back at Sandra & TK

TK SANDRA BANNERTK SANDRA CIVICTK SANDRA STUDIO

2015 is drawing to a close and with it, WONE's 30th anniversary look back at some of the on air personalities who made it successful. All of the jocks we've revisited thus far have gone on to other jobs; some close to home some far away. Fortunately for us, the final two spotlighted here are still heard daily on 97.5 WONE. They are Sandra Miller and TK O'Grady.

Sandra joined the air staff when she was 21 . Her first day on the job, Labor Day 1998, came with some anxiety, arriving 45 minutes late to a Beach Dig in the Portage Lakes. A flat tire on the way there was to blame. "I was sure they'd fire me on the spot but everyone was cool about it so I breathed a huge sigh of relief."

In mid 1999, Sandra became WONE's 7-midnight jock, a post she held for twelve years until becoming our workday rocker in Summer of 2011. When speaking of her longevity in this crazy business, Sandra shared this nugget of sage advice given to her from a coworker, "Tim Daugherty once told me 'it is always better to ask for forgiveness than permission."

TK O'Grady became a member of the WONE family just a few months before Sandra. He boasted an impressive resume of major market experience, having worked in Chicago, Miami, and Charleston. "In Charleston, from the beginning of May until the end of September, the heat index is oppressive, usually hovering around 110 degrees. When I arrived in Akron, it was overcast with temperatures was in the upper 60's. I thought to myself "YES!! I'm back in a place that has all four seasons."

His first year was spent as our Production Director, (the guy in charge of recording and getting commercials on the air). He also did some weekend air shifts. Within a year, he was elevated to Program Director. As the boss, he came up with some benchmark WONE events such as the Brews & Blues Oktoberfest and the Hog Report. He took over the WONE midday air shift and took the noontime Cafe Rock request hour to higher heights, busting it out of the four walls of the studio and taking it live on the road. These days, TK rides shotgun on your way home each day on the afternoon drive shift.

WONE has been rockin' Akron for over 30 years but the combined talents of Sandra Miller and TK O'Grady add up to almost 36 years. So here's to a job well done you two, and to those who came before us as well as those yet to make their mark on Akron's Home of Rock & Roll.
